MP's sonnet at night for love
THE theme of this light-hearted concert was set from the start with
John Score's perceptive reading of Gerard Manley Hopkins' poem God's Grandeur,
which celebrates God's loving care for the world.
Later readings were included in the programme on the many aspects of true
love. The last one of all was Shakespeare's great Sonnet 116 True Love,
which was read by Wokingham's MP John Redwood.
There was a glowing performance by Christopher Cromar on the organ of
Vaughan Williams' Two Preludes on Welsh Hymns. Later in the
programme Cromar teamed up with the conductor, Alexander Chaplin, in a
brilliant, fiery performance on the piano of Arthur Bliss's duet, Rout.

The choir sang with their usual enthusiasm and attention to detail.
Howard Goodall's The Lord is my Shepherd was a light, tripping
pastoral. Walton's Jubilate Deo was given the power it deserves.
The second part of the programme included a few popular songs which we all
enjoyed - The Way You Look Tonight and I'm Beginning to see the
Light. The Bare Necessities with its snappy arrangement was
great fun.
The final It's Time to Go was a lovely example of the choir's neat,
well-controlled singing.
