Katie Van Kooten SopranoAmerican soprano Katie Van Kooten studied at Biola University and at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Her awards include the Elisabeth Sweeting Fund Scholarship, Barber-Surgeons' Company Award, Sophie's Silver Lining Scholarship, Susan Longfield Competition in 2003 and the LA Opera Buffs Scholarship 2001/3. She has taken part in masterclasses with Sir Colin Davis, Sarah Walker, Graham Johnson, Martin Katz, Eugene Asti, Robin Bowman, Ruth Golden, Graham Vick and Earl Petriarco. Roles include Susanna Le nozze di Figaro, Pamina Die Zauberflöte, Hero Béatrice et Bénédict , Countess Le nozze di Figaro , Female Chorus The Rape of Lucretia, Fiordiligi Così fan tutte (Opera a la carte), Donna Elvira Don Giovanni (Opera a la carte), and Queen of the Night Die Zauberflöte (Bellingham Festival of Music, Washington, USA). Her scenes performances include works by Verdi, Puccini, Massenet, Strauss and Mozart. Concert repertory includes Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Orff, Handel, Dvorak, Mozart and Villa-Lobos. She recently gave a recital for the LA Opera Buffs in Los Angeles and took part in the Royal Opera House's Meet the Vilars concerts at ROH, Covent Garden. Future plans include Female Chorus The Rape of Lucretia at GSMD and Donna Elvira Don Giovanni with Opera a la carte. Katie joined the Vilar Young Artists Programme in September 2004 and made her Royal Opera debut as Magda La Rondine,which will be followed by Eurydice Orphée, Kate Pinkerton Madama Butterfly and Arbate Mitridate, also understudying Pamina DieZauberflöte and Musetta La Bohìme. |
