Matthew Rose BassMatthew was born in Brighton and studied at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. In 2003 he returned to the UK to become a Former Vilar Young Artist with the Royal Opera, Covent Garden and performed Wagner in Faust, Collatinus in The Rape of Lucretia, Tom in Un ballo in Maschera and Montano in Otello. Other engagements include Eremit in Der Freichutz at the Edinburgh International Festival, Mozart Requiem with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and Schubert's Schwanengesang with Malcolm Martineau. This season he performs Monk in Don Carlos and Figaro for Welsh National Opera, Tom in Un ballo in Maschera for the Royal Opera, Bottom in A Midsummer Night's Dream for Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Don Fernando in Fidelio with the SCO and Sir Charles Mackerras, a European concert tour of Handel's Theodora with Le Concert d'Astree and Emmanuelle Haim, and Beethoven Symphony No 9 with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Future plans include Masetto, Zuniga in Carmen, and Erster Nazarene in Salome for the Royal Opera, and Colline in La Boheme for English National Opera. |
