2009-2010 Season Notes
Musical Director Alexander Chaplin writes:
"Welcome to a new season with WCS!
If you
have not tried one of our concerts before, our Christmas and
Summer Concerts at All Saints, Wokingham appeal to a broad range
of tastes; but our concerts at Reading University also offer
much-loved music.
Next March the Society will present Tippett's
oratorio A Child of our Time, proclaiming hope shining out of the
darkness of persecution, together with Elgar's immortal Cello
Concerto.
In my preconcert talk entitled From Shadow to Light: the
musical journeys of Elgar and Tippett, I will be exploring the
profound musical language of these two giants of English music.
Meanwhile, in November, I can think of no better way to
commemorate the 350th anniversary of Handel's death than with
Messiah.
